Thirty (30) persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the Oforikrom municipality have received livelihood support items, educational assistance and medical support from the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly.

The beneficiaries received the support at a ceremony held at the Assembly on July 15, 2026, aimed at promoting economic independence and improving the living conditions of persons with disabilities in the municipality.

The assistance was financed through the five per cent share of the District Assemblies Common Fund earmarked for persons with disabilities. The items distributed included deep freezers, an industrial sewing machines, a popcorn machine with accessories, wheelchairs, startup capital for small businesses, educational support, medical assistance, and information technology equipment.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Anwel Sadat Ahmed, urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items to improve their livelihoods and enhance their economic activities.

He emphasized that the support was intended to empower and encourage them to maintain and utilize the items effectively to justify continued government assistance.

Hon. Ahmed assured persons with disabilities in the municipality of the Assembly’s commitment to supporting their welfare and economic advancement. “I will do my best to ensure that all 400 plus registered person with disability in the municipality benefits from this support before I leave office,” he stated.

Madam Mary Serwaa Adjen, Head of the Social Welfare and Community Development Department of the Assembly, advised beneficiaries to use the items for their intended purposes and take proper care of them.

She disclosed that 17 beneficiaries received deep freezers, while one person each received a popcorn machine and accessories, an industrial sewing machine, and startup capital for a new business. Five beneficiaries were assisted with medical expenses, three received educational support, and two were provided with wheelchairs. In addition, a laptop and printer were presented to the Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations (GFD), Oforikrom municipal branch.

Mrs. Adjen announced that the Assembly remained committed to supporting all eligible persons with disabilities within the municipality and encouraged families with relatives living with disabilities to register them with the Assembly to enable them benefit from future interventions.

She indicated that monitoring teams would be deployed periodically to assess how the items were being utilized and to ensure that the objectives of the programme were achieved.

The Chairman of the Disability Fund Management Committee, Hon. Issaka Ali Sambo, commended the Assembly for the initiative and urged beneficiaries to use the support to create sustainable sources of income for themselves and their families.

He congratulated the beneficiaries and encouraged them to remain committed to improving their economic well-being through the opportunities provided.

Madam Joyce Adongo, on behalf of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the government and the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly for the support.
