Five abandoned infrastructure projects in the Oforikrom municipality have been handed over to contractors for completion under a government initiative to revive stalled development projects across the country.

The Assembly’s administrative block, which commenced in 2019, remains the flagship project. Construction works stalled before completion, compelling the Assembly to operate from a rented accommodation for years.

Hon. Anwel Sadat Ahmed, the Municipal Chief Executive speaking at the hand-over ceremony yesterday, said that the on-going rent expenses have severely strained the Assembly’s finances with millions of Ghana cedis. He disclosed that the administrative block, which is approximately 70% complete, has been awarded to BB Viderk Limited with an eight-month completion period.

Hon. Sadat Ahmed described the completion of the projects as critical to improving service delivery and enhancing operational efficiency within the municipality.

The other legacy projects handed over included the Municipal Chief Executive’s (MCE) official residence, a municipal court facility, municipal judge bungalow and a 14-seater public toilet facility.

The MCE said funding for the projects have been secured through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), with 20% of the allocation dedicated to completing abandoned legacy projects within the municipality.

He assured the contractors of the Assembly’s commitment to honouring interim payment certificates promptly to ensure the smooth execution of the projects.

Hon. Sadat Ahmed commended President John Dramani Mahama for prioritizing the completion of stalled infrastructure projects, noting that development should be viewed as a continuous process irrespective of changes in political leadership.

Mr. Mohammed Awal, Project Manager of BB Viderk Limited, assured the Assembly that the company possessed the technical capacity and resources to complete the administrative block within the stipulated period.
