The Oforikrom Municipal Assembly has issued a 3-month ultimatum to private developers to secure building permits before continuing with their construction projects.
In an address statement to the General Assembly and staff of the assembly during the first ordinary assembly meeting of the fourth session of the second assembly on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, the Municipal Chief Executive of Oforikom, Hon. Abraham Antwi cautioned property owners who fail to acquire building permit within the stipulated time or leave the assembly with no option than apply legal sanctions against them.
“The initiative this year is to embark on a revenue drive centered on building permit. Data would be collated on all properties with or without permits in our municipality. Those without building permits are to be given 3 months ultimatum to procure their permit. The assembly will take legal action against defaulters who fail to acquire the permit within the stipulated period”. He said.
In a letter issued, the assembly has commissioned a task force to undertake a Development Permit Audit within the municipality effective 15th of April, 2023 to 15th of July, 2023 after which prosecution of defaulters shall follow.
The general public is thereby advised to acquire building permits within the 3 months ultimatum to avoid any legal sanctions.
Hon. Antwi also called on the Assembly Members to rally behind the Presiding Member so that the Assembly would be able to assiduously work toward the achievement of its goals.
In attendance were the Municipal Chief Executive, Municipal Coordinating Director, the Presiding Member, the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Assembly Members, Municipal Police Commander, government appointees, technocrats, and the media.
