One thousand coconut seedlings have been distributed to farmers in the Oforikrom municipality on Tuesday, 5th of September 2023 by the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly to boost cash crop production and export.
Under the theme, “Planting for Export and Rural Development”, the Assembly considered coconut to be the most suitable cash crop after considering the weather conditions and the soil in the municipality.
The Municipal Agric Director, Mr. Osei Kwame Kyeretwie presented 1000 coconut seedlings to the farmers with the expectation of 4000 additional seedlings later this year. He further highlighted on the benefits of the initiative which included revenue generation through export and income for farmers.
“These coconut seedlings are expected to be harvested by three years after planting. And we look forward to boost agriculture and eradicate poverty within the municipality as the produce will be exported to generate income”. He noted.
The farmers who were present showed great appreciation for the seedlings they received and how it would be of great benefit to them. The seedlings are set to be distributed to the farmers in the Municipality as they prepare to get forms ready for cultivation.
