TRUCK RAMS TRADERS AT ANLOGA JUNCTION IN KUMASI TWO DEAD, FIVE INJURED

A sense of shock and grief hang heavy over Kumasi as the city grapples with the aftermath of the devastating accident at Anloga Junction.

The incident, which transpired on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at approximately 8 pm, has left the community in shock and grief, prompting urgent discussions about road safety in the region.

Eyewitness accounts reveal that a long truck, registered as AS-1786-Y and loaded with agrochemicals, was parked at the roadside near Oforikrom Taxi Rank. According to Inusah, an eyewitness present at the scene, the truck, initially assumed to have developed a fault, started descending down Anloga Junction without any driver or mate present to control the steering.

The truck collided with a taxi and eventually crashed into a nearby billboard, which had heavy metal rods, close to the Total Energy filling station at Anloga Junction, Kumasi. The impact resulted in multiple casualties, shattering families and prompting concerns about the safety of the roads in the region.

Emergency response teams, including officials from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), the National Fire Service from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), military personnel, and officers from the Oforikrom Police, swiftly arrived at the scene. Initial assessments reported five people injured, with two individuals tragically losing their lives on the spot. All victims were promptly transported to the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for immediate medical attention and preservation.

As investigations into the incident are underway, authorities are diligently piecing together the sequence of events leading to the tragic collision. Two other vehicles, a taxi (Toyota Corolla) with registration number AS-6663-11 and an unregistered Toyota Land Cruiser with DV number DV 5013-2023, suffered extensive damage in the accident.
